Hourly moving works best when the crew can keep handling the agreed inventory instead of waiting for decisions or unfinished preparation. Time saved can reduce the labor portion of a move when it changes billable time above the applicable minimum. It does not erase the minimum or every other charge in the estimate.
Finish decisions before paid work begins
Separate moving items from donations, disposal and belongings staying behind. Resolve furniture destinations before arrival where possible. A sofa that is loaded, unloaded and moved between rooms several times uses crew time each time it is handled. Clear room labels and a short placement plan can avoid that repetition.
Tell JEM about scope changes before moving day. An extra storage stop or an unlisted bedroom is more useful information before the schedule is built than after the truck arrives.
Make cartons ready for the truck
Close and label boxes, protect contents appropriately and group loose pieces into suitable containers. Do not create oversized or unsafe loads to reduce the carton count. Moving twenty secure cartons can be more straightforward than handling a similar volume of open bags, loose shelves and miscellaneous objects.
If packing will not be finished, ask about paid packing help and materials. The useful choice is to budget for the real task, not describe an unpacked home as ready.
Remove access delays you can control
Reserve a building's loading access and service elevator. Confirm permitted parking, keys, gate instructions and management contacts. Keep the route clear and arrange supervision for pets and children. Share stairs, long walks and elevator rules with the office; these affect planning even when preparation is excellent.
Do not trade safe handling for speed. The team leader should choose the method for heavy or awkward pieces. Rushing stairs or helping unexpectedly can create new problems.
Compare the whole estimate
Ask for the hourly rate, crew size, minimum hours, clock rules and separately charged services. Dispatch, travel, fuel, materials, access allowances, protection choices and selected extras may still apply. JEM's quote also itemizes its service fee and tax. A thirty-minute labor saving is not a thirty-minute reduction in every line.
For illustration, half an hour at a $180 crew-hour rate is $90 of labor before applicable fee and tax, provided the time is billable and remains above the minimum. Use your written quote for actual amounts.
Review crew-size decisions and stairs and elevators, then enter the real inventory in the JEM planner.
